![]() ![]() ![]() Still wondering if it stays or goes? Fashion writer & stylist, Abby McHale has this advice. If however, it's just about getting back into a size, if you ever do end up that size again, the items will probably be out of style anyway, so treat yourself to a new pair of the best jeans, or a sharply tailored blazer instead. If an item has particular sentimental value, we have a plan for keeping these items safe, but they shouldn't remain in your active daily wardrobe. It's easy to hold onto items, hoping to one day 'get back into them', but it is rarely a mindset that improves our body positivity. This is the time to be ruthless, particularly if items no longer fit. ![]() ![]() This includes any items that no longer fit, suit you, are beyond repair or, if you're particularly style conscious, have fallen out of the latest fashion trends. Start by immediately discarding the clothing you know you do not want to keep in your closet. It's time to sort, this is probably the longest part of the process and ideally, you will have a full-length mirror close by. Use this opportunity to give your closet a thorough hoover and clean, before placing moth repellent in, so you start with a fresh wardrobe. If you're looking to declutter all your clothes at once, get every item out and onto the bed. If this is the case, you should now store all items of clothing that aren't suited to the current season in boxes or vacuum bags, ready to declutter those clothes when the appropriate season rolls around. You could create a winter capsule wardrobe, decluttering only winter items now, before going through the process again, creating a spring capsule wardrobe later down the line. While your primary concern here is how to declutter clothes, everything needs to come out to start with, we can deal with how to declutter jewelry and accessories another time.ĭecide if you're going to separate clothes out by season. Also, maybe add a note about replacing it in the future – sometimes we have essential pieces we can only let go of once we replace them with a new one to avoid having a gap in our closet.Remove everything from your closet. DO I KEEP IT? This one is pretty straight forward: you either save an item or you don’t.HOW DO I FEEL? The whole point of taking the time to have a curated closet and improve your style is so that you feel your best so instead of thinking about how you look, ask yourself how do you feel in it? Is it young, smart, professional, old, boring etc.? And obviously, we should keep the clothes that make us feel our best and let go of the rest. Also, you’ll see which items from which brands stood the test of time so you can avoid buying bad quality in the future. And because brands have different styles, you can recognise that and start shopping in your favourite stores in order to stop wasting time in other places. BRAND – brands use different base models who have different proportions, so it’s usually the case that when we like the fit of a particular brand, we buy more from them.COMFORT – do you feel comfortable or not and if so, why? Do things seem to be tight around one area but okay everywhere else or are some items just plain uncomfortable because of the material or incorrect size?.MATERIAL – look at labels to find out which materials your clothes are made out of but also write down how the material feels, is it stretchy, structured, thin, light, soft, etc.?.HARDWARE – does this item has any metals, such as zippers, buttons etc.CUT – look at all of the details what are the collar, sleeves, length, waist rise etc.FIT – observe the fit of an item, is it loose, slim, or maybe slim in one place and loose in another?.PATTERN – write down if the item has any patterns or if is it a solid colour?.COLOUR – simply write down the colour of the item, and if there is a pattern write down all the important colors in the pattern, preferably in the order of visibility (from more to less visible). ![]()
